Dear OG Associates & Premiere Members
Our home planet is approaching a treacherous tipping point. Thus the cover story for the next Ocean Geographic is pointedly relevant. You can help us bring greater attention to this issue by voting for the cover of Ocean Geographic – ‘The Remains of the Antarctic’ edition. We appreciate your VOTE. Voting Link Here
Why is this important? Our planet has just had the warmest three months in recorded history; in parts of East Antarctica, the temperature is 40c higher than normal - the largest heatwave that our planet has ever experienced in terms of variance from the normal.
This year 2.4 million sq kilometres of sea ice are missing compared to the average of the past 40 years. If global temperature continues to rise, Antarctica, the climate engine that cools our planet, will begin to act more like a radiator than a refrigerator.
Meanwhile, enjoy the remaining splendour of Antarctica as witnessed by the expedition team of ACE this February 2023. It is the current state of Antarctica, haunting pictures you won’t see in the mainstream press. These impressions of the Antarctic that is vastly different from ordinary expectation. We hope you will be inspired and help preserve the ‘The Remains of the Antarctic’ for your future loved ones.
Just before we were struck by the global pandemic, in 2019 David Doubilet, Jennifer Hayes and I made three trips to Palau to shoot for a gift of state book ‘Our Ocean, Our Future Palau’ for launch at the Our Ocean Conference 2020 was delayed till March 2022. For the book, we shot at some of the iconic sites plus newly discovered and hidden seldom-seen locations. Now we like to share with you our ‘secrets’ of Palau in a special Our Ocean Our Future Palau Expedition (25 Sep to 2 October 2024) – We have commandeered the superlative LOB Ocean Hunter III as expedition platform and the dates co-incite with the hundred of Bumphead parrotfish spawning event. We have also planned to use a set of powerful HMI lights (as used by David Doubilet and James Cameron in Titanic) for the Chandelier Cave shoot and possibly for the Japanese Zeke fighter plane shoot. This is a preannouncement for members - we have not advertised this expedition yet and spots are limited. Email us if you’re interested.
We announced our sojourn to the Azores in the last update – this is one of the last blue water wilderness where you can expect to interact with Blue sharks, giant Mobulas, mantas, and whale sharks in bait balls. We are also applying for a permit to interact with whales. This small group is an up close and personal expedition – spots are very limited. For more information sign up at OG AZORES.
Two spots remain for the astonishing mantas phenomenon this 28 September on the Duke of York to Baa Atoll – this is your chance to interact within a vortex of mantas and also dive into some of the iconic sites of Ari Atoll. We have a special last-minute package going. Email us to book.
After 23 years, DEMA returns to New Orleans this November – Our entire team will be there – and we have a plan for a get-together for OG and ACE members on 13 November evening. Without a doubt, this will be the biggest dive show event of the new decade. We hope to see you there.
