ANIMA HAI — Southern Maldives Expedition (7–18 Feb 2027) is a 12-day expedition for snorkellers and scuba divers exploring the remote southern atolls of the Maldives, where some of the Indian Ocean’s last healthy coral meadows remain. Travel from Malé to Fuvahmulah aboard the proven expedition vessel Duke of York, encountering sharks, rays and pelagic species while documenting reef resilience in a warming ocean. Full board, nitrox and all dives included. Max 19 guests.

Beginning in Malé, we sail west to Ari Atoll before crossing south through Vaavu, Meemu, Laamu, Huvadhu, and Fuvahmulah—documenting ecosystems that reveal both strength and fragility. Here, reef health underpins livelihoods, culture, and tourism, even as warming seas tighten their grip.

This is not a celebration without consequence. It is an inquiry. What does resilience look like now—and how quickly could it be lost?

For snorkellers and scuba divers alike, this voyage offers rare access, purposeful storytelling, and a shared responsibility: to witness, record, and help safeguard what still endures.

The MV Duke of York is more than a vessel—it is a proven expedition platform and a trusted partner in exploration. Chosen by Ocean Geographic as a flagship expedition vessel since 2020, Duke of York has successfully supported more than eight major expeditions across the Maldives, earning its reputation for reliability, comfort, and access to remote reef systems that few vessels can reach. Its track record is built not just on luxury , but on consistency, capability, and a deep understanding of expedition demands.

Purpose-built for long-range exploration, Duke of York combines exceptional seaworthiness with generous, thoughtfully designed spaces. Expansive open decks provide room for observation, filming, briefings, and quiet reflection between dives, while exquisitely appointed, large cabins offer rare comfort during extended voyages—an essential balance for long days in the field.

Operational efficiency is matched by an experienced crew, streamlined dive operations, and stable cruising—allowing expedition members to focus fully on documentation, science, and storytelling. From reviewing footage at sunset to preparing for dawn encounters, life aboard Duke of York supports both productivity and restoration.

As the official ANIMA HAI platform for the Southern Maldives, Duke of York enables a seamless journey from Malé into the deep south—connecting some of the Indian Ocean’s last healthy coral meadows into a single, purposeful expedition. In an era when access to resilient reefs is rapidly narrowing, Duke of York remains a vessel of trust—carrying Ocean Geographic expeditions not just to extraordinary places, but through them with intention, care, and legacy.

Every ANIMA HAI expedition contributes to:

  • A Collector’s Edition Book
  • A global travelling exhibition series (2029–2031)
  • A geo-referenced digital archive, to be revisited in 2051 — when the same reefs will be re-documented to reveal humanity’s choices in the climate era

Participants are not tourists. They become Cimate Avengers and contribute to the expedition's purpose and goals.
