Here is a preview of a selection of covers for OG 61 – the Love edition; we would appreciate your VOTE. Thank you.
Dear Associates & Members
Seems like only yesterday when we launched Ocean Geographic in July of 2007. Our next edition is a milestone – our 15th Anniversary. We are here because of you and we remain in existence, even through the time of pandemic, because of your love for our ocean. We are thankful for your support, especially to our founding supporters Rolex and SEACAM. We are super excited to move forward to the next 15 years, and now we shall take you back to when we started – our first edition view https://www.dropbox.com/s/lzt0tk5nttewnai/OG%201.pdf?dl=0
In the first edition, I wrote about the climate crisis, “Smoke in the Sky, Fire in the Sea’. The crisis is now much more urgent as severe flooding and mass fire events are much more frequent and more destructive now than ever before. In the forthcoming commemorative edition, we aim to inspire more love for our natural world with a special cover story by our honorary board of editors and associates “Love Notes to Our Ocean”.
Staying relevant to the LOVE theme, we are running an excerpt from “What a Fish Knows' by Dr Jonathan Balcombe. Fishes are now classified as sentinels being capable of communication, love, deception, faking orgasms, swallowing sperm, even using tools ... there is so much we do not know about fish.
As always, July is our favourite edition of the year; this is when we reveal the best underwater pictures of 2021/22. Pictures selected by legends and luminaries of ocean arts and science. These pictures have the power to inspire greater love for our ocean, directing attention to the beauty and plights that we as a species have inflicted upon our natural world.
We are delighted to announce our new partnership with Aurora Expeditions – an Australian company that specializes in expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctic. All expedition members of Aurora will receive membership to Ocean Geographic. Through our partnership arrangement, Ocean Geographic members will receive special ‘privileges’ on Aurora’s expedition. Email us to find out.
Now to get you back to the ocean, we have firmed up a few extraordinary expeditions that are guaranteed to take your breath away - running with Marlins in the East Pacific Ocean from 22 to 29 October 2022. The 3rd fastest fish on our planet! This adventure is guaranteed to challenge your senses and take your breath away. Only three spots remaining. Book Now. It is time we take you back to an amazing phenomenon in 2023 – when the stars, sun, and moon are aligned, a vortex of up to 200 mantas…whale sharks hang on the surface to feast on the broth of living wriggling planktons. Superlative takes on new meaning. And we have selected the optimum period of the season – the 2023 summer equinox. We have not advertised this expedition yet – you are the first to know. Email us to book.
Meanwhile, we need your help; here is a sneak preview of a selection of Covers for the 15th Anniversary edition; we appreciate your VOTE. Thank you.
Michael
