Help us choose the next cover for Ocean Geographic OG 59 ( see link at end of mail below)
Hello Everyone,
2022 will be a good year. Better than 2020 and 2021 at least for the world’s economy but not so much for the health of our planet. Fresh from the outcome of COP 26, the majority of countries failed to provide transformative commitment to achieve NET ZERO carbon emissions by 2050. With declared meek and weak commitments, our planet will warm between 2.7°C to 1.9°C by the end of this century. This will be catastrophic for animals, people and the health of our natural world.
The Ocean Geographic Antarctic Climate Project aims to encourage everyone to take ownership of their own carbon footprint. Thus, by the end of our 2023 expedition, the Ambassadors of the project will propose 23 Resolutions for everyone to reduce and offset their emissions thereby helping their country and communities achieve NetZero by 2035. Together with legendary explorer Dr. Sylvia Earle as lead, we invite everyone to be a part of a brain trust assembled from all over the world; those who have talents in science, art, economics, those who care about what is possible to do right now and are willing to take their mighty powers, to move from where we are now to get to a better place concerning our influence on global climate. You can be a part of this legacy. Find out more here.
To address ‘Climate Change', we must address an ongoing Ocean Crisis in the same breath. The ocean is sick; if left untreated, the survival of the human species on this planet is at risk. Life on Earth cannot be sustained without the ocean, and there are no exceptions. The implications of failing an ocean will be catastrophic to everything, even to humans. Let’s examine, in plain and simple terms, how ocean climate change will directly affect humans. This context is the cover story for our first edition of 2022.
Perfect Moments are almost always abut wilderness and wildness; in the next edition, Jamie Watts and I will share with you our perfect moments from the Antarctic Peninsula. While our creative communication editor Sheree Marris and Mathew Smith take you on a ride beneath the East Australian Current, Alex Rose our science editor takes you deep into the Alaskan Sea.
More than ever before now is a good time to weigh anchor and plan for new adventures and RENEW your connection to the sea. We have just firmed up our meeting with Orcas, Humpbacks, and Northern light expedition in Norway, November 2022 and also firming up the Central Maldives Whale sharks and Manta’s expedition in April of 2022. There are a couple of spots remaining for Socorro and Deep South Maldives - check out details here.

With Very Best Wishes
